Mixed Relief

Posted in Life in General, Politics on May 2, 2011 by Daddycatcher

Daddycatcher just watched President Obama announce that Osama bin Laden has been killed.

As much as Daddycatcher would like to jump up and down, but Daddycatcher can’t help but think that it still doesn’t end here.

Everyone be careful of your surroundings!  This is the world we live in now.

A Big Thanks (or No Thanks) to the New York Senate

Posted in Gay Rights, Politics on December 2, 2009 by Daddycatcher

Thank you to the 24 New York State Senators who voted in favor of marriage equality today:

Eric Adams (D), Neil Breslin (D), Martin Malave Dilan (D), Tom Duane (D), Pedro Espada (D), Brian Foley (D), Ruth Hassell-Thompson (D), Craig Johnson (D), Jeffrey Klein (D), Liz Krueger (D), Velmanette Montgomery (D), Suzi Oppenheimer (D), Kevin Parker (D), Bill Perkins (D), John Sampson (D), Diane Savino (D), Eric Schneiderman (D), Jose Serrano (D), Malcolm Smith (D), Daniel Squadron (D), Toby Ann Stavisky (D), Andrea Stewart-Cousins (D), Antoine Thompson (D), David Valesky (D)

And Daddycatcher has a special message for those 38 Senators who voted on blocking marriage equality:  Take a look at Tiger Woods! There’s a loving and nurturing marriage!  Oh, wait…

Ex-Gays Want Protection from Disney

Posted in Politics on October 14, 2009 by Daddycatcher

Apparently, ex-gays are pushing for the prohibition of ex-gay discrimination within the Walt Disney Company.

A statement from Parents and Friends of Ex-Gays, an ex-gay supportive organization:

Disney’s exclusion of ex-gays from its sexual orientation policy and programs reinforces the second-class status of ex-gays, and contributes to the negative perceptions and discrimination against former homosexuals.

Daddycatcher is a bit confused.  Aren’t ex-gays now “straight” and, therefore, part of the establishment?  Isn’t the entire point to live a straight life and not dwell in the past of your gay life?

And ex-gays still want to keep the coming out process:

Former homosexuals who come out publicly are commonly targeted for ridicule and hate. We need more of these resolutions nationwide to assure tolerance and safety in the workplace for the ex-gay community and their supporters.

Dude!?! You’re straight now!!! Get over it!!!

“We’re heading into nut country today.”

Posted in Politics on September 19, 2009 by Daddycatcher

That’s a quote from John F. Kennedy as he was heading to Dallas before being assassinated.

It could clearly be used to describe the political climate in America today.

With the far-right wing opposition at a fever pitch, Daddycatcher is clearly seeing that racism is still prevalent in this country.  And it’s being used to mobilize the crazies into action.

Check out Bob Herbert‘s op-ed piece, “The Scourge Persists,” for an interesting read.

A Conservative View

Posted in Gay Rights, Politics on August 19, 2009 by Daddycatcher

The New York Times has an interesting article on Theodore Olson, the conservative lawyer who is leading the lawsuit challenging Proposition 8 in California.

It’s a great read and highlights the allies that we seem to forget in the marriage debate: the conservatives who DO believe in equal rights for all people.

Practicing his opening argument recently, Mr. Olson declared that California’s ban is “utterly without justification” and stigmatizes gay men and lesbians as “second-class and unworthy.”

Daddycatcher’s former roommate was a strict Republican but she viewed the debate as an equal rights issue as well.  She was very supportive of gay marriage.

Again, we send our thanks and gratitude to our straight supporters who are aiding in the continuation of equal rights for all citizens of the United States.

Town Hall Boilovers

Posted in Politics on August 12, 2009 by Daddycatcher

Daddycatcher has been skeptical of President Obama since his lack of action on gay-related issues.  He has been thinking that maybe Obama is a talker without delivering on any promises from his campaign.

But after seeing the outrageous people who have been storming town hall meetings, creating disturbances, and bashing Obama, it became quite clear that Daddycatcher voted for the right person.  C’mon, painting a swastika outside of a Democratic congressman’s office!?! People!?!

Can you imagine what this country would be like if they had the power for another eight years?

Let’s remember that George W. Bush put the country into the position it is now, not Obama.  He’s just trying to fix it and it’s going to take a long time.
