The show focuses on events that take place over the course of a weekend in an elegant hotel in 1928 Berlin and the intersecting stories of various guests of the hotel. It was directed and choreographed by the legendary Tommy Tune. The musical is a reworking of a previous work entitled At the Grand, with music by Robert Wright and George Forrest and a book by Luther Davis. Tune brought it Peter Stone to re-work the book and Maury Yeston (Nine) to compose additional songs while revising others.
Below is a clip from the 1990 Tony Awards. The song performed is “We’ll Take a Glass Together.” It features Brent Barrett as Baron Felix Von Gaigern (“a noble man and a thief”) and Michael Jeter as Otto Kringelein (“a bookkeeper looking for life”). Jeter won the Tony Award for Featured Actor in a Musical for his performance.

Lea Salonga and Claire Moore perform “I Still Believe” on a London talk show in 1989. They both appeared in the original London production of Miss Saigon. Salonga eventually picked up a Tony Award for her performance as Kim in the Broadway production in 1991.
Jonathan Groff sings “Larger than Life” from the 1992 Flaherty and Ahrens musical, My Favorite Year.
